Instructional Goals » INSTRUCTIONAL FOCUS 2015-2016

Our instructional focus will continue with supporting students’ abilities to read closely and provide evidence in argumentative tasks.  Students will develop the skill of using evidence to support arguments in discussion, which will then transfer to strong writing in literacy and math, and develop the communication and collaboration skills that support college and career readiness.  In addition to conducting regular inquiry work on the school-wide, department, teacher team, and individual level, a Professional Development Committee, consisting of a representative from each department, will continue to meet two times per month to share the professional development needs of their respective areas and facilitate the creation of productive professional development and teacher collaboration.

Goal 1: Literacy Focus across Content Areas

  • Reading closely
  • Understanding the task
  • Finding evidence to create a claim
  • Developing/explaining the evidence to support a claim

Goal 2: Instructional Focus on Danielson Framework for teaching – Domain 1 & 3

  • Competency 1e – Designing Coherent Instruction
  • Competency 3b – Using Questioning and Discussion Techniques
  • Competency 3c – Engaging Students in Learning
  • Competency 3d – Using Assessment in Instruction

Goal 3: Focus to Develop Strategies and Resources to Provide Multiple Entry Points

  • Building a variety of strategies (Multiple Entry Toolbox) to provide all students access to achieving NYS Standards.
