I am writing to let you know that in the next few weeks, you will receive $420 from New York State to spend on food for your family. (Some of you may have already received it.)
The money is coming from the Pandemic Electronic Benefits Transfer (P-EBT) program, to help you cover the cost of the free school meals that your child missed when our school closed because of COVID-19.
How will I Receive the Money?
1. Families who currently receive Public Assistance or SNAP benefits, or Medicaid, should have gotten the $420 added on to their EBT card or Medicaid CBIC card, in one or two payments this spring. You can check your balance at connectebt.com or call 1-888-328-6399.
2. Families who are not enrolled in SNAP, Public Assistance or Medicaid will receive a new EBT card by mail between mid-July and August. Be careful not to this letter out by mistake.
If you have questions about whether your P-EBT food benefits are available or to order a new card if a card has been lost, stolen or damaged, call the State P-EBT Helpline:1-833-452-0096 or email the state office at otda.sm.eisp.PEBT@otda.ny.gov.
There is no application to fill out to receive the money.
Each student will receive $420 in P-EBT food benefits.
You have 1 year to use the money, from the day it is sent to you. P-EBT benefits can be used to buy food at many participating stores. You can see a list of eligible food items here.
Your immigration status does not matter for P-EBT. All families with students at our school are entitled to P-EBT. Using P-EBT does not affect your or your child’s immigration status. The public charge rule does not apply to P-EBT.
P-EBT does not replace other nutrition programs. You will still receive the full amount of any other benefits you are entitled to, and can use other programs, like summer meals, SNAP, and WIC, while using P-EBT. Visit bit.ly/CFAPEBT to learn more.
P.S. Watch your mail carefully - don’t throw out the card! And please use it. Everyone needs healthy food and you’ll be helping to support your local businesses
