Important Information for FHHS Families - September 24, 2021

Fort Hamilton Community,

Learning and reconnecting continue to thrive at Fort Hamilton High School.

Covid testing was conducted on both 9/17 and 9/24, and will continue weekly.  Notably, there have been NO positive cases NOR any transmission amongst students as of today, 9/26.  While we are overcrowded and unable to maintain social distancing in the hallways, all spaces are organized to allow 3 feet between students, along with daily health screenings, masks, air purifiers, open windows, and 70% of students with at least 1 vaccine dose (data from DOE Vaccine Portal).

The NEW policy starting Monday, 9/27, removes the need for unvaccinated students to quarantine if close contact with a positive case.  We ask that every community member continue to monitor their health and stay home with covid symptoms.  We will continue to report positive cases to the Situation Room and follow guidance to inform close contacts, but quarantine will not be required as long as students are symptom-free.

Social distancing is critical during lunch while students eat with masks off.  Whether in the cafeteria or auditorium, we expect students to keep masks on except when eating 3 feet apart.  Masks must be worn all other times and students must be courteous to discard their trash.

We encourage students to get vaccinated and to upload their status to the DOE Vaccine Portal DOE’s Vaccination Portal(Open external link), as it provides greater protection for our community.

Heading into week 3 of SY2021-22, we are prepared for staff accommodations and leaves that result from the mandate that all staff be vaccinated.  Program adjustments are being made as needed, and we’ll be distributing hard copies of student class schedules in 3 period on Wednesday, 9/29.  On the same day, we’ll share via Pupilpath the letter for parents who wish to give permission for their child to leave if lunch is the last in-person period on their schedule.  All written permission must be returned to the guidance counselor who will verify by phone and then document the early dismissal.
