Migrating Files from @fthamiltonhs.org to @nycstudents.net   

DO NOT ATTEMPT TO TRANSFER CLASSROOM FOLDERS OR FILES 

STEP 1: Log into your @nycstudents.net Google Drive Account 

STEP 2: Click on the SHARED DRIVES link on the left-hand side of the screen 

STEP 3: Click on the +NEW link at the top of the left-hand side of the screen 

STEP 4: Create a name for your New Shared Drive 

STEP 5: Find the three dots in the right-hand corner of the Shared Drives Icon 

STEP 6: Click on Manage Members 

STEP 7: Type your @fthamiltonhs.org email address into the field 

STEP 8: Log out of your @nycstudents.net and log into your @fthamiltonhs.org 

STEP 9: Your new Shared Drive will be visible on the left-hand side of the screen 

STEP 10: Select files you wish to migrate 

STEP 11: Drag the files to the Shared Drive 

STEP 12: Agree to transfer ownership   

 

Migrating Files from @fthamiltonhs.org to Personal Gmail  

  

Option One: Drive to Drive 

  1. Go into your school Google Drive account 
  1. Select the file or folder you want to transfer to your secondary/personal Google Drive Account 
  1. Right-click on the file or folder and click share 
  1. Type in the Gmail account for your personal/secondary Google account. Go down to advanced and change permission to Is Owner. Then click the blue Send button. 
  1. Log onto your personal/secondary Google account and go to your Google drive. Click the shared with me folder. Alternatively, an email should pop up in your Gmail (make sure to check your spam folder.)  
  1. Google Drive won’t allow you to make a copy of a folder, but it will let you copy the items inside the folder.  
  1. Right-click the file and go down to make a copy. This will make your own copy of the document that you are the owner of.  

 

Option Two: Download & Upload 

  1. Go to Gmail and sign-in to your account. 
  1. Go to Google Drive and select the files you want to migrate to another account. 
  1. Copy all the files, move them to a new folder, and name that folder with “Export”. The folder will appear in your directory. 
  1. Now, you can easily download the “Export folder” and save all your selected files on your system. 
  1. Right-click on the folder and click the Download option. Google server will automatically compress all the files to a zip file. 
  1. Once downloaded, you can easily extract all the files from the single zip file. 
  1. After extracting the files, open another Google Drive account and click the “+” icon to upload the files and folders from another account.
