An Important Message from Principal Houlihan - April 19, 2023

April 2023
Dear Fort Hamilton Family:

As the warm weather approaches, it is necessary once again to address proper student dress. We are sending you this letter in order to inform you that all students must be dressed appropriately before entering the school building and maintain proper dress throughout the school day. I am sure you agree that appropriate attire throughout the day is an important part of school tone. You and your child should also be aware that proper school dress is written in the Fort Hamilton High School Student Rules and Regulations, as well as, the Department of Education Discipline Code. Therefore, the school will be monitoring what students wear to school during these upcoming weeks.

Proper attire for students is required at all times. Revealing, lewd, and/or clothing that does not provide coverage of torso, undergarments, or private parts, including see-through clothing are not permitted. Additionally, sleeveless undershirts, and clothing that is potentially dangerous, such as those containing spikes, etc., are also prohibited. Hats are not permitted to be worn in the building and will be confiscated for repeated offenses. Hoods are also not to be on students’ heads while in the building and ski masks, sunglasses, and exotic contact lenses are also prohibited while in the school building. Sweatbands, do-rags and other headgear is likewise not permitted to be worn while in school.
Please note that while certain styles of clothing are popular they are NOT acceptable Fort Hamilton High School attire. Please remind your child to dress appropriately for school each day.
In addition, please remember, students should not bring skateboards to school as they are not permitted to be carried around the building throughout the day. School personnel will not be responsible for taking possession of them or storing them within the school.
As always, thank you for your support in continuing to make Fort Hamilton one of the finest large high schools in the City of New York and for helping to create an environment that is safe and conducive to learning.
Sincerely,
Kaye Houlihan
Principal
